About Us
Located in a secret workshop in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Great Lake Records cuts every disc on a Vinyl Recorder T560 lathe driven by the Technics SP-10R motor unit. The system features a System Phonics Nebula cutting head paired with a NAD M23 amplifier, with monitoring and control through a Dangerous Source.
Each record is diamond-cut into PETG, giving every run lasting durability and hi-fi clarity. Unlike other shops, we manufacture all of our blanks and diamond recording styli in-house, guaranteeing that everything is made in the USA. Every cut is done on the same tuned system — no multi-machine assembly lines, just pure consistency from start to finish.
Behind the lathe is George — record collector, producer, mastering engineer, and journeyman IATSE stagehand. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Audio Engineering from Ex’Pression College for Digital Arts, served as Head of Audio for the Joffrey Ballet, and worked as a staff engineer at Studio City Sound alongside Grammy-winning engineer Tom Weir, collaborating with world-class talent before founding Great Lake Records.
We are the only independent U.S. lathe-cutting shop — committed to true hi-fi, diamond precision, and sound system culture.
